It's All Fun and Games Until You Take a Beer Bottle on the Noggin

He went to his desk, and rummaged around the PADDs until he found the one he was looking for. "I made a point to review her service record. She was with the 8th Infantry during the Imperium War. The 8th saw some of the bloodiest fighting of the whole war. Before that she was a Legionnaire Commander for the Narlin Defense Forces. Served as a Royal Guard for two emperors. Fought in the Narlin Civil War, and in the 8th and 9th Cardassian Campaigns." He handed her the PADD, "They ought to be very afraid. The woman has more combat experience than the entire division put together."

[Trinity Talon]

"That's what I meant... she's got a lot more than simply mud on her boots." Trinity said as she quickly scanned through her record. "Doesn't exactly make her fit in with a bunch of guys that haven't seen the kind of combat you and I have. Carly had to do some telepathic stuff to keep me from having those nightmares I used to get after one of those first battles we fought in. I couldn't sleep for a week. Of course I WAS what? 16? I shouldn't have been there, neither of us should have been there, but we were the only ones not missing limbs in that crash." she sighed. "A record like her's... she's probably watched more than her share of fellow soldiers die around her. But she's also lead a lot of them back home alive."

[Ethan Talon]

"Exactly the sort of commander we need. You, I, and Remokov are the only officers in the division, and three of the few in the entire military that have faced long odds. Fought, not because we were protecting those we loved, but for our very survival. We never had enough supplies. Our meals were worms, and grubs we could find. Our weapons from those we killed. We keep on because we knew that there were things worse than defeat. I think that is why we are standing here right now. We have been to the edge and back. It's something you cannot train for."

[Trinity Talon]

Trinity nodded her head and looked out the window. "I think that's why I dove so deeply into getting that ranch started, was the first time that you and I could actually provide for other people and more than scraps and what we could get off the fallen." she closed her eyes. "Our timeline... our old future... that was hell. We know what we can lose. We know what we're fighting to defend."

[Ethan Talon]

Ethan wrapped his arms around her and pecked her on the temple. "Yeah, I know. I once told Mattis that. Sacred the crap out of him. I think it's why he offered me this job, and let me promote you with me."

He smiled as the thought hit him, "I was thinking that we should give the division stand down orders. They're militia, not full time. Not to mention they have to be missing home, and it would seem the Dominus threat has worked itself out. It will be good to go home, and I'm sure we got a lot of work to do."

[Trinity Talon]

"Maybe some but... I don't quite think this is over yet. Not by a long shot." Trinity said as she looked at him. "We may not need a huge force but we do need some that are ready to go when we need them. This is still a tiny tiny military compared to what we had. Sooner than later someone is going to test us." she put her hand on Ethan's artificial arm. "Maybe we keep the best of the best, turn this into something of an 'Elite' militia, have to be the best to wear our patch. Otherwise, they can shovel horse crap and muck the pigs."

"I didn't mean disband," he said confused. "Just let everyone go home. I have war games scheduled for next month."

[Trinity Talon]

"Neither am I but I think we should do it in waves, war games can happen next month, but training and drills and maintenance can keep happening." Trinity replied. "But... it would be nice to spend a bit more time at home."

[Ethan Talon]

"Okay. Since the 69th volunteered to help your grandfather, let them have next week off, and then we'll go from there. We are at war after all. Why don't you go home this week."

"It'll be nice to spend more than the night in our house." Trinity replied
