You Can't Come Home Again

The sun had a pleasant glow on this mid-winter afternoon, and she had always loved this part of Terra Alpha. In the distance a wispy finger of smoke rose above the pines marking the spot where Ethan and Trinity's ranch was located. In fact this land had been part of the ranch, before it had been given to her name sake Aunt Olivia.

She was puffing like a freight train when she rounded the bend leading up to the house. The air was thinner at this altitude, and she was used to life aboard a starship, not long hikes in the mountains.

There it was. A house she knew all too well. Almost as well as her own childhood home that wasn't built yet. She spent almost as much time here than she did at home. She had kissed her fist boy here... even lost her virginity a few years later while everyone was out.

She smiled remembering the party that Uncle Ethan and Aunt Trinity had broken up here when she was in high school. Aunt Trinity had been elected county sheriff, and of course Ethan followed her, and was her deputy. She wished she could find that kind of love, and the fact that they never told her mother what she'd been about meant she owed them.

She stepped up to the front door and rang the door bell, "Hello?"

Olivia answered the door in a pair of short workout shorts and a tank top emblazoned with the Cross Archery logo, almost instinctively Olivia had her workout baton in her hand, ready to strike if she had to. "Hello... and you are...?" she raised an eyebrow. "If you're here about the Nautilus machine, we just bought one and if Jena gets another weightlifting machine, I may have to kill her."

"Do I look like a saleswoman Aunt Liv?" She asked incredulously. "I couldn't sale heaters to an Eskimo. It's the ridges," she said pointing playfully to her forehead. She could barely contain her excitement. "It scares the bejesus out of folk. Is mom home?"

"Aunt Liv?" Olivia said and raised an eyebrow at her. "Ohhhh right right... Jack told me about you." she slapped her forehead. "Ridges should have been a giveaway. Sorry... was still in the zone from my training." she put the baton down and cocked her head. "No, she isn't around... although if I know Aimee like I do, you're probably going to freak her out. I never even teased her about naming her daughter after me, kinda nice. Confusing but nice." she chuckled and motioned to the small bar. "You look like you could use something warm. Coffee like a Sandoval or Tea like a Lei?"

"Yes, it is chilly out there," Livvy said shyly. "You got raktajino? No, I suppose not. Ummm... I guess a coffee will do."

"I brew mine strong when it's like this." Olivia said with a gesture to the window. "Never really like raktijino, I drank it because sometimes that's all there was available." she said as she pulled out a mug and filled it with coffee from a large silver and rosewood coffee pot. "Suppose you know more about me than I know about you." she rubbed her neck and smiled slightly. "Kirby would say I'm losing my edge, but Jack said not to give you a hard time, at least not until he figures out a way to send you home, IF he can send you back." Liv cocked her head and smiled. "I can certainly see the Sandoval in you, although I am pretty sure those are my earrings... does she know you have them?"

"No, you never were much of a fan of the Klingon coffee. And, Jack need not worry about me. I guess I'm returning to my time. Going to Walt Disney myself. Admiral Angel Ryder's orders. I have to admit it's probably for the best. I belong in my own time. ] just could not resist the opportunity to see everyone in their prime. Grandpa Nick is gone, and Grandma Becca is frail and old."

"Gone? How could he be gone? Like dead or just... not around?" Olivia raised an eyebrow. "One thing you need to learn future girl... keep things close to the chest. And old and frail, you aren't THAT old are you?" she looked at her. "I mean then again, look how hot your grandma looks even at her age now."

"I uh... said too much," she said hastily. "I'm... well no. I'm 28, but that makes grandma..." she hesitated doing the math, "105? I think... yeah, I'm pretty sure she was born in '41."

"Well dad claims he's in his sixties but Pythus Sector screwed up his personal timeline and age so much for all I know he's in his 80s, grandma Tess is in her 90s now but that regression she went through a few years back had her de-aged back to her teens, but she's like physically in her late 30s early 40s, grandpa Leo... who knows. He seems to have aged quite a bit lately." Olivia said and put her hand on Livvy's shoulder. "Course for all we know there's more time travel or Pythus Sector bullshit in their future and they age considerably overnight. I've got a daughter that should be barely four and she's like 16-17... time dilation stuff. Dad thinks we need to start a cross temporal intelligence agency or something, keep things from getting too messed up. Although I think the timeline is so mucked up... there's really no helping it, it'll go dark or it'll go light with or without us."
