"So we're just letting it happen." Noonian shook his head and crossed his arms. "Isabella, something has to be done. Surely they even realize that we're not going to just sit by. She was your mother. They were your friends."

"Well you're the second most powerful woman in the Alliance." Noonian replied. "You are also my granddaughter. Granddaughter of Khan Singh. You have more iron will in your veins than anyone else on this planet because you have your father's tenacity." he closed his eyes. "Look, I just spent the past night studying your mother, my daughter. Who should not have died. I... I just can't abide nothing. I need there to be something. Talk to Jon... and don't close yourself off. I know how that is. I spent a century doing that. It's not the way to live."

Bella sighed, “fine I’ll talk to him but I can’t promise it will change anything.”

"That is all I ask... that you discuss this. He listens to you and he is a very tactical man, but most of all... " Noonian looked into her eyes. "You are also better together than you are apart. It doesn't take a telepath to know that you two barely spend time together. Not since... the incident. Even if the world has gone to hell, you two are still a team. I've forgotten what being a husband was like, what being with a strong woman and a family felt like. And to be brutally honest, it should be me on that table not her. But your mother always put herself in the danger. You did not fail her. I'm working on something that may give us a way to keep others safer... but it'll take time and testing. In the meantime... talk with Jon. And if you are going to drink at least drink with him."

“It doesn’t matter I can’t get drunk anyway.” Bella said dismissively as she picked up her mug. “I have to get ready for work. I’ll let you know what he says.”

"So? Neither can I... but you're married to a non augment. It's more fun to watch them get tipsy." Noonian said with a smirk. "I'll let you get to work... but Isabella, if you need to talk, hit something, scream at someone who understands, I am always there for you. We can destroy things together. I'm pretty sure I'm holding in far more than I am letting myself feel. And the memorial will be in a few days, here at the tower. I'm not letting Selene's body go with anyone. Too easy for Dominus' goons to try and take her and his scientists to experiment with her. There's a special subterranean vault under the tower, only a few can get in, takes an augment to open the door and to be on the safe list or they get vaporized."

“I’m sure it will make my father feel better to some degree. I’ll see you in a few days.” Bella said and ended the call. She looked over and her father and James still planning away how he was going to find Ophelia. He was just going to get himself killed too and there wasn’t anything she could do about it. She couldn’t protect him either.

“I have to head to the office. Are you two sticking around?”

"I'll go with you." James said as he walked over to her. "With... Cece... gone. Someone has to help that knows where her files and such were. I'm guessing Jon has to name a new Chief of Staff huh? Kassie or are you going take it over again? Daisy and I already set up a protocol, just in case something happened, although we thought the 'something' would be she'd be recalled to a ship. Plus, she was already setting up some of it too. I think she wanted to go back to the Fleet. Her uniform was hanging in her office closet. Looked new."

“Kassie can do it. We’ll have to hire Jon a new assistant to replace her. I’ll talk to him about it.” Bella said as she walked into the bed room. “Let Kassie know and I’ll talk to Jon in our meeting this morning.”
