"You know there are bands newer than like 400 years old," she said dryly. "Come on I'm changing out of this... thing."
After a few moments Rebecca lead Nick into her temporary quarters. She pulled off her combadge and the Romulan award which she set on a nearby counter top.
She peeled out of her uniform jacket down to her black bra. Seeing Nick's face Rebecca tossed the uniform at Nick, "Grow up. They're just boobs. Recycle that for me would you?" She started for the bedroom, but stopped and picked up a PADD, and tossed that to Nick. "The latest updates to the Erebus class. Tell me what you think."
She disappeared inside the bedroom and returned several minutes later wearing a simple white off the shoulder tee shirt, dark indigo skinny jeans, and a pair of black ballet shoes. She had touched up her makeup and added a pair of diamond stud earrings, and a gold cross necklace.
"That's better," she announced as she ran a brush through her cinnamon and gold hair.

Nick chuckled as he caught the uniform jacket. "It's not the boobs I was giving you that face for, it's the bra. The hell you get that from? Didn't my mother teach you anything about proper bra fitting? That thing looks like it gives you zero support and probably makes you hunch..." he said as he recycled the uniform and set up another replication pattern as he glanced at the padd she tossed him. "Hmm... sexy beast. I like the nacelle design, although what we've been doing with slightly canted pylons has really been effective in maintaining a non damaging warp field without needing to articulate them like the Intrepid class." he reached into the replicator and put the small box he replicated off to the side. "I think this bird needs to be built yesterday, shuttlebays are just not suitable replacements for a proper through deck fighter bay."

"Agreed. You need to be able to launch and recover quickly. Not to mention fighters aren't shuttles. You need dedicated repair hangers, not to mention munitions bunkers with appropriate elevators. I could probably design something half the size, but at times of peace there's little need for a dedicated warship so we need the ability for it to be more... well flexible and do other things like scientific surveys. With appropriate configuration this ship could perform deep space exploration indefinitely as long as the crew can locate sources of ample deuterium."

"If I could crack the chemical compound of these..." he manifested a fireball in his hand. "We could almost do without a lot of the fuel we use. Still, I've been working on it for a decade, even the best scientific minds haven't cracked it yet." Nick shrugged his shoulders. "In any case, there are peacetime uses for fighters. Reconnaissance. Survey. Security patrols. Hell, even search and rescue operations. A good air superiority fighter wing that can be launched and maintained in nearly any conditions would be useful. I know mom and I considered cutting a lateral through deck carrier for basically 'ambulance' shuttles or for rapid response relief ships, but the Corps of Engineers thought that was stupid and just enlarged her shuttle bays. Course, that's why I like working with the ASDB... Advanced. We're advancing the fleet. No idea is too small. There are days when I seriously considered getting into politics just so I could get these hide bound, dyed in the wool 'we've always done it this way' 'everything needs twenty redundancies'... dinosaurs out of power."

"You have at it," she replied with a smirk. "I'd probably end up in prison when the first politician decided that my idea was bad simply because I represent the opposing side. It's one thing to disagree with me. It's entirely different when you are just doing it because it's politics."

"True. Well I suppose working within the system and doing what we can is better than trying to rebuild something wholesale." Nick replied and looked at the PADD again. "I still say this needs to be ramrodded through, we're in wartime, shit like this is the only way we can push through innovation. You really need to work with me when you get that Battleship. If nothing else it'll get you back up to Commander and get them to conveniently forget things." he put his hand on her shoulder. "In the meantime... let's just enjoy being together. Been a damn age since we've all sat down for a quiet drink. Although knowing this station, it won't be quiet, but for the moment the only one you're waiting on are the Lei girls. Oh they have new code names, Julie's Whisper. Ru's Flare. Katana and Boomer annoyed someone higher up."

"Knowing those two, quiet is not very likely," Rebecca smirked as the door chime rang.
Answering the door stood Tomarah with her hands clasped behind her. "Good evening. I hope I am not disturbing you."
"Not at all. Come in Commander. We were just discussing the shortsightedness of the Federation when it comes to ship design. Commander Tomarah this is my friend Nick Ryder. We went to the Academy together."
The Romulan nodded respectfully to Nick. "Another famed Starfleet engineer that can fix anything. It would seem your organization is flawed not just in personnel matter. It was a tactical error for them to remove you from command."
Rebecca shrugged, "I disobey orders. Them punishing me isn't the problem. The fact that they left you for the 'greater good is the problem."

"I keep thinking they'll learn the error of their ways eventually. This war drags on, we're going to need commanders. We can't just grow them in a tube like the Dominion. Although we have people we grow in bottles, they're called Marines." he chuckled lightly. "Which reminds me, I need to send Captain Young a case of Foster for his team's help with the USS Navarro." he looked at Commander t'Sei. "The Federation will help everyone, but sometimes I fear there are far too many Vulcan attitudes. Our willingness to help at our own cost is a virtue not a sin."

"Well, in this case it was literally a Vulcan," Rebeca said.
"Be that as it may I feel that I am in your debt. My chief engineer was killed during the incident. I'd like to offer you a three month posting to the Tal Falar. I have spoken to my superiors and Admiral Ross and they have both approved the officer exchange. All you have to do is agree. But, know if you do agree you will be expected to train your replacement. We are just as shorthanded in the Empire as you are in the Federation, especially after recent raids by the Dominion and their Cardassian lap dogs."
Rebecca gave Nick a look with a raised eyebrow before replying, "Yeah, I think we can work something out in that regard."

"Might not be a bad experience." Nick admitted. "Although I was looking forward to taking you back to Mars with me. Still maybe seeing how the Romulan ships work up close might be useful, if we can support your ships better, that may save lives in the long run." he said to Tomarah. "I mean, we know really very little that isn't highly classified and 50 years out of date."
