“And she may want to kill him again.” Bella said with a raised eyebrow. “When she’s ready we should all meet her if she’s going to be working for you. If this relationship is going to turn into something more then...we should meet her as a family. Until then I’m not ready to see her outside a professional setting. Don’t get me wrong Dad. If this is what you want and you really are happy then I’m happy for you. But I’m not ready. I don’t know how to explain it I’m not good with words like Solara. I’m just not. I miss Mom.”

[Clint Cross]

"I know... trust me I know." Clint said. "I was not at all prepared when she came to Joe's but... James is right, we do need a Black Widow."

“Okay last order of business and then let’s see if we can salvage breakfast because I’m starving and I really wanted bunny pancakes.” Bell said sheepishly. “When do you think she’ll be ready for a meeting with everyone?”

"Well let's give her a few days at least... I mean she did kinda like you based on our short comm after dinner." Clint said with a smile. "And I didn't really entirely shut up about you and James and Kaitlyn. But I don't really want to scare her off, you also know how your mother was about all this domestic stuff. 'Love is for children' and 'I've got too much red in my ledger to expect happiness'. How often did we hear those lines after one of us were hurt and she was semi-depressed? This is Selene circa five years ago, without her dating that crazy clingy Trill scientist."

“Or super clingy augmented boyfriends. Let’s not forget about Lincoln he did try to kill you.” Bella reminded him as she snagged a pancake.

[Clint Cross]

"Exactly. All her ex's are on some other reality." Clint chuckled as he made more pancakes. "I mean I'll be completely honest, I will never get over Selene, we were partners who were meant to be partners. I'm like Clint Catnip to her, I thought it was just our's but nope... " he gave her a look. "By the way, does Jon get a tad more clingy when he smells you?" he whispered. "I may need to talk to your grandfather and check on a few things. Because keep in mind, Jackson and Lucius put enough booby traps in our Selene to keep her loyal. No idea what she may have under the hood that I couldn't determine."

“Jon’s not augmented he doesn’t have the heightened senses like we do. It would be an awkward question you’d have to ask him. But if you’re going to ask those kinds of questions I’m way more sensitive now then when I was with Eli. So I wouldn’t be surprised if there was some pheromones he might pickup on.” Bella said trying to keep her voice low so Jon and James couldn’t hear them. “You should have Noonian check her out if you can convince her to not kill him. Complete physical and as detailed as he can be.”

"Right and I think she should know what we know about our Selene. Because she's going to be hopefully filling her old role on the team. I know if I would up on another reality and there was a Clint that passed and I was basically looked at slotting into the group, I'd want to know what my counterpart was up to." Clint glanced at the wedding picture on the wall. "I'd be freaked out but still... it's nice for people like us to have a family and a unit. She never had that either. Even our's always seemed like 'what if this is just some trick' when things were good. That's why we put so much work into plans for all of you. Just in case. I could be taking a shower and have my head blown off. She could be buying wine and the store explodes. We planned for that. We were always ready for this. Nature of being an assassin, someday, it'll happen to you. And it did. We even have back up back up plans."

“Are you happy?” Bella asked as she studied him.

[Clint Cross]

"Happier than I was." Clint said as he looked at her. "I mean... the prospect of being set up wasn't really appealing and I dunno... I always sort of hoped this would happen. No one will ever replace your mom, but I think she needs me as much as I needed her. Have to least explore it. See where it goes. At least she's technically blood to Kaitlyn and you and really, we understand her more than others would. How many times did we have to advocate on Selene's behalf?"
