Another Crashed Car

"That shouldn't be too hard. Not planning on working with Starfleet, maybe S31... they're shady as hell, but a few little things here and there, keep them off our trail and still give us access to what we need if we ever DO decide to return." Nick said as he reached into his pocket and snapped his fingers. "Forgot my mints." He reclined in his chair slightly. "So we could keep the shuttle cloaked, just beam down into some place in London, have tea, a nice dinner... I'm not eating what Clint considers 'field rations'. I lived on those at the ASDB, I can't stomach them anymore."

“Dinner sounds lovely.” Alice said. “And if we find a place do we re true my need to hide the shuttle? Didn’t Jack design this? He probably built in something to hide it.”

"The phase cloak on this thing will keep it hidden long term, short term we can have it mask its signature, but I wouldn't want to use it much in the open. Course, maybe I'm the reason why shuttles from the mid 23rd are still in use like... I've seen them used as cabs and school busses. Anyway... once we find a good place to live, we'll park it and hide it. Maybe find a place with a carriage house that this'll fit in, no one will bother it if I put a few tarps over it and let it get dusty."

“Sounds wonderful and far better the sand.” Alice smiled at him. “It’s been a very long time since I’ve been home.”

"I know... you seemed pretty homesick, even those quasi English towns that have cropped up haven't 'quite' hit that spot for you." Nick said with a half smile. "It'll be nice to actually visit some of the landmarks that were trashed by the Imperium." he glanced at the sensors. "Alright... I've finally got a date, we're July... 2222... wow that's annoying. I'll bet when it was the 22nd of February everyone was all 'Ohhh it's all 2, that'll never happen again!"

Alice rolled her eyes, “Nerds.”

"You would have had 22-2-2222 shirts made..." Nick nudged her arm. "So, that's a good era... advanced enough that most of the tech we'll need to maintain the shuttle will exist or at least be adaptable. We can still live sort of like we always did, replicators aren't really a 'thing' yet, but they sort of exist. I can even run whatever AI's on the shuttle in our house without raising any eyebrows. No major battles happen for least another 20 or so years. Nothing that'd we'd be tempted to get pulled into. But still far enough removed that anything we do happen to do, people we meet, it won't ripple effect in a quantum way." he pulled out a small piece of paper and took out a pen. "See, small changes won't affect the timeline we came from, because quantum time will simply course correct around it. Gale meets someone... no biggie. So there's another Ryder genetic line running parallel, that may or may not even survive. There are literally a dozen major wars and skirmishes it could end then and not affect anything in our future."

“That’s a pleasant thought.” Alice said sarcastically. “This was never meant to be permanent. I would hope we return before he has children.”

"That's still the plan, but y'know... we may just enjoy it and stay there. Although I'm sure we'll get to the point where we miss our era and our family and friends that we'll go back." Nick said as he got up and went to the replicator and ordered up a bottle of water. "But at least Dominus and Bellatrix won't be able to use us or our son. And... if my face is mud because of him, we can ride that out. And try to heal. I still wake up to nightmares of Dominus doing to you and Gale what he did to Solara."

“It is curious he didn’t try.” Alice said as she checked the controls. “I’m not complaining. He did seem to have a fixation on things Jackson was interested in. Very odd.”
