Well... That Didn't Go As Planned

[Jack Ryder]

"Let's start with the girls... get them clothed at least." Jack said as he glanced at the tanks. "Want to get them to a safer place first. The boys, we'll present to Dominus. Except 8 and 17."

[Ashley Walker]

She nodded. "I got the robes in that box over there." She entered commands into the computer and there was a rush of fluid as the tank drained, followed by a pneumatic hiss as the tank opened. "Transferring vitals to the subject. Heart rate 30 BPM and rising. Blood pressure 34 over 12 and climbing. Core body temperature is at 38 celcius."

"Brainwave patterns stable... let's hope that jury rigged trans optical cranial education system we set up worked. Considering we're not transferring existing engrams, what I need to do once they're conscious will be much easier if their minds can process what I'll be dumping in." Jack said as he wheeled over the wheelchairs and gurneys. "They look pretty good on the outside, musculature is good, electro stims have done their job, won't take much for them to learn to walk and move." he scanned them. "Congratulations Doctor Walker... we've just created life. And we didn't need to change a single diaper. Knock on wood."

"Heart rate stable at 76 bpm. Blood pressure at 119 over 79." She looked up and nodded, "Thank you, and you too Dr. Ryder."

She wrapped a robe over the feminine shoulders. With a pen light she checked pupil reaction. Picking up a tricorder she scanned the subject. Everything appeared normal except one thing. "I'm detecting an abnormality on the hypothalamus." She handed the device to Jack for analysis.

"It's abnormally normal." Jack replied as he looked at her tricorder. "That's common, takes the brain a little while to 'kick in' that it needs to start regulating itself. Keep in mind, we've accelerated growth from fetus to infant to adolescent to close to adulthood in a much much shorter amount of time than normal. Hormone levels are going to take a while to get under control." he touched the newly 'born' woman's forehead and slipped into her mind. "Starting the neural imprint of basic functions..." he said as he closed his eyes. It was a technique he learned from Jackson, not only was it good for getting anyone who was 'Tabula Rasa' at least functional without being a nearly brain dead zombie, but it also imprinted basic speech and language, simple knowledge. For a telepath of Jack's skill, with an ordered and compartmentalized brain, it was easy enough for him to 'remember' and 'transfer' that knowledge. "Imprint complete." he said and scanned the girl. "Neural functions are stabilizing, hormone levels fluctuating. She knows how to breathe on her own, walking and moving will take a little while for her brain to form those connections with her limbs."

Jack watched the woman as she moved her fingers by herself. "They all have numbers, I wonder if we should name them ourselves."

Ashley shrugged, "We are technically their parents. How about Eve for this one? It's poetic if not bloody obvious."

[Jack Ryder]

"Fantastic." Jack said with a thumb's up. "She looks like an Eve to me anyway, classically attractive. The long hair does add to that. It's rather shocking how much hair all these clones have, I remember Jackson making some comment about clones sometimes having aberrations where they would grow a considerable amount of hair. Let us hope she doesn't have that problem or she may need to wear slacks more regularly." he looked at a couple of the other female clones. "I think this one... looks like a Joan. Petite, more delicate, almost Parisian features. And this one... Magda. She looks like my Slavic studies teacher. In fact, she may be. No idea where we got some of these samples from."

Ashley shrugged, "One of the samples came from me." She indicated another pod, and returned to work. "I figured that if I'm doing something questionable I should try to limit it to me as much as possible."

[Jack Ryder]

"Well I did make one of myself... a... back up, just in case." Jack said as he gestured to a small device on the counter. "Engram copier. Anything happens, put that on my head and then put it on the clone's. Give it a couple days... you'll know if it worked or not. Not that I feel like being a clone, I enjoy my wrinkles and I've worked long and hard on training myself to keep up with a Xenexian wife and four children under ten."

"So, that?" She indicated the device in Jack's hand. "It can do more than basic information? Could this work for all of us?"
